Pelican is so-named because of the two dozen or so Brown Pelicans who live on the property in the winter. This land is protected by us as pelican habitat. The pelicans will often roost as close as twenty feet from the house. Although individuals will roost near the house and fish right off the deck throughout the day, the big show is just after sunset when they all come in and compete for night-time roosting space around the dramatic "moon rock" on the property.
Pelicans have remained unchanged for 6 million years, yet today they are an endangered species.
